Full Text Search and Sharepoint

Hello
I have a problem with Full Text Search and Sharepoint.
From my understanding Sharepoint basically uses SQL's full text search
right.
But recently, sharepoint search stopped working. It's not returning any
results at all.
So I researched about it and found out that I should check the full text
index of Sharepoint Database
I did and found out that item count is 0 and size is 0MB so I tried
rebuilding the catalog but
I get this Error 7608
An unknown full-text failure (8007007e) occurred in function EnumCatalogs on
fullt-text catalog.
So I did further research and tried creating a full-text catalog for a
database i just created for testing purposes.
But still the same error when I tried to build a full text catalog.
then I found Nick Porter's suggestion via google:
http://spaces.msn.com/members/nickpo...ew&_c=blogpart
and found out that I need to reinstall SP3a/SP3.
and so I did, however, during the first few steps (after checking the
licensing agreement)
I get asked for which user I want to use (Windows Account/sa?) so first I
tried using the windows account (it's an admin domain account - which was
used when SP3 was initially installed) then it would say Validating
User...and it took a very looooong time for the installer to do that. It
took an hour just to validate the user to the point that it seemed like the
system had hung up already. But of course I waited because I just couldnt
cancel the installation...only to get an Access Denied Error. So the
installation aborts by itself and nope the installation did not even reach
the copying installation files point -- just until validating user. Then one
service account I use for Sharepoint gets locked out. The sharepoint service
account is different from this sql doman admin account.
Then when I tried to open the Enterprise Manager, it takes a really long
time to open the database folder then it hangs.
So our tech support admin recommended that I restart the server. Then
everything was working well again (thank goodness) except for the full text
search. It still gives me the error and I don't want to risk trying it again
until I find out what went wrong to the reinstallation procedure of SP3a.
Any ideas how I can solve my full text search problem?
Thank you.

|||Hi Hillary,
Thank you for your reply, I just checked out the article and verified my
settings, and nothing worked.
Although there was one file that was mentioned in the article that's called
mssadm.exe
which i tried to search and found two of them in the my computer, one under
the Sharepoint Portal Bin Folder
and one in the MSSearch folder...so maybe there's a conflict? but am not
really sure...what do you think?
