Full text service user account

Folks,
Just a quick one. How do you determine the user that the full text
service is using on SQL Server 2000? Any suggestions/code sample
diagnostics much appreciated.
Thanking you,
Al.
It has to use a local system account. If you have it run under a user
account it will not work.

Full Text Service not starting from EM

hello,
I have the following problem. Everything was working fine
with the full text search. I created a catalog etc... now
in EM, database->tools->"Full Text Indexing" is grayed
out. I cannot use the full text indexing with tables
(grayed out) and the full text search is marked as stopped
in the support services. Trying to start it returns a "an
instance of the service is already running" error. The
Microsoft search service is started however.
I am also able to run queries using the full text indexes
I have created, so it seems only the administration from
EM is not working.
any idea would be greatly appreciated
thank you
Benoit

The instance of the SLQ server 2000 is running on my
computer under the localsystem account. I am connecting
with EM on my computer running the service, not from
another client computer. in EM the local server is
registered with Windows Authentication.
Isnt there a way for me to administer Full Text Search
from EM under these conditions? Seems like the most
straightforward configuration to me.
thanks again

If you are using the (system) LocalSystem account to start & run the
MSSQLServer service, then it should work. This is the exact configuration
I'm using on my home server and it works for me. Can you re-confirm that you
are not using a local machine account, check the EM server property security
tab and "system account" should be marked. Can you use the system stored
procedures to create and populate FT Catalogs on this server, (see SQL 2000
BOL for examples of use):
a.. sp_fulltext_database -- Initializes full-text indexing or removes all
full-text catalogs from the current database.
a.. sp_fulltext_catalog -- Creates and drops a full-text catalog.
a.. sp_fulltext_table -- Marks or unmarks a table for full-text indexing.
a.. sp_fulltext_column -- Adds columns to full-text indexes.

Full text search with MSQL 2005

Does MSQL 2005 Full-Text-Search engine make use of Microsoft Search Service like the previous version? (MSQL2000)

If yes, where there any improvements in performance? Is MSQL 2005 Full-Text-Search recommended AND ready for large scale / enterprise systems with lots of traffic? If yes, how is the performance?

I've been doing some research, but I can't find any good articles on it... if you know of any please add them to the thread! :)

Thank you very much!

Full text search

I am asking about installing Microsoft Search service in SQL Server 2000 in Windows XP Professional

Is that possible?

And By the way it's not possible for me to switch to SQL Server 2005 that I know that full text indexing already exists in it

thanks

To run SQL Server 2000 Full Text in WinXP you must have the Developer edition if not I don't think you can install it except the Eval which with the release of SQL Server 2005 no longer exist. I have not used the SQL Server 2005 version but the person who runs the blog below can answer all your questions. Hope this helps.

Full Text Indexing Problem in Desktop Engine

Hello,

I have MS Desktop Engine Service Pack 1 and I want to do Full text indexing but when I tried full text indexing on desktop engine it gives me error. I found the solution that upgrade it to service pack 3. Then i download service pack 3 and try to upgrade it. but it gives error that no Sql server installation found. Plz help me. what should i do for full text indexing.

Will the full text indexing increase the speed of webpage accessing for searching?

Thanks in advance.

Fulltext is not a supported feature for MSDE. You have to upgrade to Sql2k5 Express edition to get Fulltext.

Full Text Indexing on Microsoft SQL Server 2000 with Windows XP Pro

I am wondering if FUll Text Indexing is suported with MS SQL Server 2000
Developer Edition on XP Pro SP2 . I have the service installed and setup. I
have created several catalogs with data but when they are done populating
they show up with an Item Count of 0 and a Unique Index of 1 despite the
fact that there are 10+ records with extremely different data in the 3
columns that are being indexed.
I am not seeing any unusual messages in the Event Viewer also. I have
uninstalled and reinstalled already and the Server is running under an
Administrator User
Hi,
Thanks for your post.
From your descriptions, I understood that you would like to know whether
Full-Text Search is support in SQL Server Dev Edition and how to implement
it. Have I understood you? Correct me if I was wrong.
Based on my scope, Full-Text Search is supported in SQL Server 2000 Dev
Edition on Windows XP Pro. See more deatiled descritption about this in the
following links
Features Supported by the Editions of SQL Server 2000
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...us/architec/8_
ar_ts_1cdv.asp
For the second question, I am not sure your detailed steps on how to
implement the Full-Text Search for the Table, would you please give me more
detail information about doing so? Here is an sample doing this with SQL
Server Enterprise Manager.
1. enable a table for full-text indexing
- Expand Databases, expand the database in which the table belongs, and
then click Tables.
- In the details pane, right-click the table, click Full-Text Index Table,
and then click Define Full-Text Indexing on a Table.
2. To create a full-text catalog
- right-click the database where you want the full-text catalog.
- Click New, and then click New Full-Text Catalog.
- Complete the New Full-Text Catalog dialog box.
3. Make a Full Populating
- expand the database that contains the full-text catalog to rebuild.
- Click Full-Text Catalogs, and then right-click the specific catalog to
populate.
- Click Start Full Population
4. See whether the data had been updated
- right-click the specific catalog to review.
- Click Properties, and then click the Status, Tables, and Schedules tabs,
as appropriate.
See the following chapter in Books Online or MSDN Online for more detailed
information
Creating and Maintaining Databases -> Full-Text Indexes ->
Administering Full-Text Features Using SQL Enterprise Manager
Hope this helps and please feel free to let me know whether it works or you
need furhter help. Thank you for your patience and corporation.

I have
uninstalled and reinstalled already and the Server is running under an
Administrator UserHi,
Thanks for your post.
Features Supported by the Editions of SQL Server 2000
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/architec/8_
ar_ts_1cdv.asp
- Click Properties, and then click the Status, Tables, and Schedules tabs,
as appropriate.

received a reply from Mr. Kane who point dme to a KB that while completely
unrelated showed me where to find the Auditiong options for SQL Server which
I used to pinpoint the real problem. The problem has been resolved.

Full Text Indexing

I need to store documents in a central location and search them using the features associated with Microsoft Search Service. I can either store them on SQL Server or on the server direct - using either method I can retrieve them using sql (in the case of the later I need to use the openquery method and deploy a linked server).
I am trying to work out which method I should use, at the moment I am inclined towards storing them outside the database as this seems to be quicker. Any advice about the pros and cons associated with each would be much appreciated.Dave,
Well, if you need to search them via the "Microsoft Search Service" and
you're using SQL Server 2000, then you must store the files in SQL Server in
column defined as an IMAGE datatype along with a "binding" column for the
file extension. See SQL Server 2000 Books Online (BOL) title "Filtering
Supported File Types" for more information. Note, this is a new feature of
SQL Server 2000 Full-Text Search (FTS).
If you do not have SQL Server 2000 and are using SQL Server 7.0, you can
store the files on disk with pointers to the doc in a SQL Server table and
then use the "Indexing Service" to FT index the documents and use a
openquery method and deploy a linked server. However, you will find that
compared to storing the files in SQL Server 2000, that this option will not
perform as well.
There are other considerations that may also affect your decision to store
the docs inside or outside the database, such as the number of files, (just
thousands, or millions?) as well as security/transaction control (on disk,
anyone can add, delete or modify the files). There are many factors that can
and do enter into this discussion as I've seen flame wars started over this
issue, so more information on exactly what your requirements are would be
helpful in making this decision...
Note, you can also post FTS related questions to the newsgroup:

Full text HELP!

Can anyone tell me why this doesnt work:
1- full text service is running under local system account
2- sql server is running under a domain account
3- local admin consists of both (domain admins and system)
4- correct priviledges are given to the folders (sql
folders)
5- sql is in CLUSTER (4 nodes / 4 virtual servers)
When i create a catalog it works. When i populate it.. it
says that it populated with sucess but value maintains 0 ?
I have the article (microsoft) where it tells me builtin
admins need to be in the logins.. i have tryed with
builtin admin AND nt authority system (seperatly) and
still doesnt work... it worked ONCE but then never worked
again.. it populates with no errors but the value mantains
0
event viewer gives me the following warnings: 3036 3035
and 3024 but when i reaseached them i get the article
about the builtin admins and ms search running under local
system acount which is already the case...
Can anyone help me? Is full text supported in cluster?
what can i do to fix this problem?
this basically means that MSSearch is unable to access SQL Server to
retrieve the rows it wishes to index.
Most frequently this problem is caused when you modify the MSSQL Server
account using control panel instead of Enterprise Manager. Check out this kb
article for more info:

This is SQL 7 but it still applies

Full feature demo for SSRS Web Service Rendering (with Interactive Sort)?

Is there any example I can find a full feature demo of SSRS Web Service Rendering with Interactive Sort and other features enabled?

For MS: Indeed I think ReportViewer Control should be an open source component as we as developer needs the flexibility to customize the report viewer interface as well as can learn directly from the control source so to understand how can we integrate better with SSRS.

The RSExplorer sample distributed with the SQL Server 2005 Samples (installed by default in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Samples\Reporting Services\Application Samples\RSExplorer Sample) will probably help. Interactive sort uses the ReportExecutionService.Sort API. However, I don't think you will get too far trying to implement interactive sorting on your own since the Sort API takes the id of the item to be sorted but you have no way to know it in advance.

I agree with you that some RS areas are good candidates for open source, including the Report Viewer controls, Report Manager, and SharePoint web parts and I hope that a future release will help in this area. Meanwhile, you can use the .NET Reflector to understand how the Report Viewer control works.

|||The reflector is quite a useful guidance, I am very new on the reflector thing though, will try to see how it works. RSExplorer seems not the right project, there is no sign of using ReportExecutionService at all, it just does the report publishing using ReportService and use URL based browsing to run the report.

We could just hope MS to release these sources for us, but most people are quite negative in this expectation- including myself.

FTS Installation Problem - unavailable in SQL Server

Hello, I have a SQL Server 2000 sp4 server. Trying to install Full-Text
Search. I can see the Microsoft Search service and it shows as started. But
the Full-Text Search option in SEM is 'grayed out'. The FTS system procs
also report that FTS is not available. SQL Server has been stopped/restarted
but still no luck. Is there something else that needs to happen to make SQL
Server 2K see that FTS is installed?
- Thanks,
Chris M.
