full uninstall of MSSQL 2005 Ent SP1

Hi,

I am facing a serious problem with the unproper uninstall. I have installed MSSQL 2005 Enterprise and created an Active Directory at the server. I have removed the AD and wanted to uninstall SQL 2005.

I was not able to uninstall it fully. I have reinstalled it several times, just to tryying to remove the registry entries.

Is there a solution / tool or a document describing, how I can fully manually remove MS SQL 2005 from a server?

I have already installed SP1.

Hi,

after uninstall, I noticed on many places that registry entries have not been removed (several hundred places). I do not have a complete list (too many entries).

After uninstall, I try to install MSSQL 2005 Ent. (64-bit) once again. System Configuration Check goes fine (all are with status = Success). See the attached report at the end (att 1).

At the selection of components, I check all options (I can not select SQL Server failover cluster).

I select "Default instance". For service account, I choose "Use built-in System account" and select "Local system". By default, the following are selected to start and the end of the setup (SQL server, Analysis Service, Reporting Service). SQL Server agent is unchecked. Also, "Customize for each service account is unchecked".

For the Authentication Model, I select Mixed model (I have entered a password).

SQL Collation is set to "Slovenian dictionary order, case-sensitive, for use with 1250 (Central European).

Report Server is set to default configuration.

Overview of the installing components (see att 2). I click "Install" to start the installation.

I get an error message : An instance with the same name already installed on this computer. To proceed with SQL Server Setup, provide a unique instance name. (Error at SQL Server Database Service). See att 3 for more details from the log file.

I get also an error message with the Reporting services : "There was un unexpected failure during the setup wizard. You may review the setup logs ... Event ID: 50000. I have my content of the 2 installation CDs copied to a hard disk.

Full Text Service not starting from EM

hello,
I have the following problem. Everything was working fine
with the full text search. I created a catalog etc... now
in EM, database->tools->"Full Text Indexing" is grayed
out. I cannot use the full text indexing with tables
(grayed out) and the full text search is marked as stopped
in the support services. Trying to start it returns a "an
instance of the service is already running" error. The
Microsoft search service is started however.
I am also able to run queries using the full text indexes
I have created, so it seems only the administration from
EM is not working.
any idea would be greatly appreciated

The instance of the SLQ server 2000 is running on my
computer under the localsystem account. I am connecting
with EM on my computer running the service, not from
another client computer. in EM the local server is
registered with Windows Authentication.
Isnt there a way for me to administer Full Text Search
from EM under these conditions? Seems like the most
straightforward configuration to me.

If you are using the (system) LocalSystem account to start & run the
MSSQLServer service, then it should work. This is the exact configuration
I'm using on my home server and it works for me. Can you re-confirm that you
are not using a local machine account, check the EM server property security
tab and "system account" should be marked. Can you use the system stored
procedures to create and populate FT Catalogs on this server, (see SQL 2000
BOL for examples of use):
a.. sp_fulltext_database -- Initializes full-text indexing or removes all
full-text catalogs from the current database.
a.. sp_fulltext_catalog -- Creates and drops a full-text catalog.
a.. sp_fulltext_table -- Marks or unmarks a table for full-text indexing.
a.. sp_fulltext_column -- Adds columns to full-text indexes.

refresh it. Sometimes through a combination of manipulating your catalogs
you can enable your Full Text menus.

full text searching...

I am working on a system where we wish toc reat a full text catalog in sql server 2000. I created a test catalog and started a 'full population' but it failed. After several attempts I restarted the 'Mircosoft Search' service and it is failing with the following error:
"The Gatherer property mapping file cannot be opened. Error: 80070003. The default values are being used. You may have to copy the property mapping file from the setup CD, or reinstall the application".
I have little knowledge about MS seraching and the relationship with full text catalogs in sql server 2000. I have been able from google to find the following MS knowledge base article:

Is this the best solution for my problem?
The system I am working on is not a clustered database and has the sql installtion on the 'C:' drive with the log and data files fdor the database seperated oput onto to seperate physical drives

full text search weighting on different columns

Hi,
I've not used FT much, but I've successfully created a CONTAINSTABLE query
on a database that contains names and addresses, using a wildcard for the
field names.
Can anyone please point me in the right direction for info on how to
"weight" one field over another? For example - if someone searches for
"John", the system needs to rank "John Smith" in the "name" column over "10
St John St" in the "address1" column.

You must join two or more CONTAINSTABLE from the same table or multiple
tables and then use the appropriate weight for each predicate, for example
using the Northwind table Employees and two FT-enabled columns:

Full text search catalog

Hi,
I am using a full-text catalog to perform search inside a 1GB table. I
have created fulltext catalog as usual methods, selected the necessary
fields for the catalog from the table. When I want to make a stress test
over the search fucntion, it deoesnt return any data if I use more then 7
concurrent connections.
I heard that, this was a problem on sql server version 7. But this is a
sql server 2000 version. And from the white paper of full text catalogs, it
says it is able to handle up to 5124 concurrent connections to a fulltext
catalog.
What would be causing this ?
PS: Computer's props: Dual P3 500 Mhz, 1GB Ram, 18 GB SCSI HDD, Win2k
Server, Sql Server 2K Standard Ed. Computer only works for sql server
processes, not other process bothers the computer.

When you say a "1GB Table", do you mean 1GB rows or the overall size of this
table? Also, how long are you waiting for the queries to return results and
what is the expected number of results per query? SQL FT Indexing and FT
Search query performance is a function of the total number rows as well as
the expected number of rows returned. Are you using the exact SQL FTS query
in each of the 7 concurrent connection or is each query different? Could you
post an example of your SQL FTS query?
Also, what is the return value for this query: EXEC sp_fulltext_service
'resource_usage'

the table has 784.000 rows. Table has 19 columns, and most important
column (BODY) is Long Text type. Only 5 columns are being used in the FTS
indexing. That is one of them.
when I run it as 1 concurrent user, it takes 3-5 seconds to get a
result. I expect not more than 40 results per query. It can be less or none.
I use WAS Tool to run a stress test on the web[age that triggers the query.
And I use same exact parameters for each 7 concurrent connection. When I put

Full Text Query Starts Slow

I've created a FullTextCatalog on one of my Databases and added a full text index on one of my text columns.

The first time I run a query against the data it takes roughly 40-45 seconds to return data. After that it blazes and runs in under a second. If I don't query it for 20-30 minutes, it will take 40-45 seconds again and then fly until the next break.

Is there a configuration setting somewhere that I'm missing on this? Currently the Index is only about 5MB so it should take that long to read in when I'm querying it.

I don't think it has anything to do with size because the actual return can contain anywhere from 10-80K rows and the speed is about the same.

I'm using Standard edition on a 2003 Standard Server if that plays into the potential problem at all. We're currently downloading and installing the new Service Pack to see if that fixes it, but for some reason I'm not holding my breath. I'm assuming that there is something we need to change in the configuration.

In 2005 I didn't think that it had to go out to the MS Search searvice? I thought it was now all contained within SQL Server. In any regards, this is happening exactly the same way regard less of the query or amount of data returned. A call just to ContainsTable() with no other joins that returns 3 or 70.000 rows takes roughly the same amount of time.sql

I have created a catalog from a table that contains only english with <html> tags. When i run a query against it i get

Server: Msg 7619, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Langauge database/cache file could not be found.

I have read that setting full text to use the neutral word breaker may solve this problem, question is "How do i set it to use the neutral word breaker"

Full text is not working for me

Hi all,

I havent found any time difference between the FTS and normal search.

I have created Full text search successfully in wrk_contact table.

CREATE UNIQUE INDEX UI_UKContact ON wrk_contact(id_contact)

CREATE FULLTEXT CATALOG contact_cat AS DEFAULT;

CREATE FULLTEXT INDEX ON wrk_contact(lastname) KEY INDEX UI_UKContact;

I have inserted 1.5 lac of records in that wrk_contact table.

I am trying to do following query

SELECT distinct *

FROM wrk_contact

WHERE CONTAINS(

lastname, '"g*"'

)

Same set of records i have inserted in wrk_contact_tmp table without creating full text search.

I was doing the following query

SELECT distinct *

FROM wrk_contact_tmp

WHERE lastname like 'g%'

I ran both queries seperatly but the execution time for the both queries are same..

Any mistake i made please help me.

Hi Gomaz,

If using CONTAINS you are finding all the records you are looking for, then you did everything correct and FTS is working for you properly. I did not fully understand how many records has your table, 1.5 M? 1.5 thousands?

Also, how many records are returned after search for g*?

In easy queries as this one, with small number of records, the advantage in performance of FTS is not so obvious. You will notice how powerful is FTS this when you will query large amount of data (e.g: 100M) and/or using more complex criteria.

Other advantages of FTS is that it is language aware (instead of pattern based only as LIKE is). in FTS you can look for inflectional forms, Thesaurus,etc... per a given language. Algo you can use NEAR of weights in your queries, etc.... Another important advantage is that FTS supports binary data and special types as XML, etc.. while LIKE only works for text data and it always performs a SCAN of the table

Let me know please the performance you are experiencing in your scenario and we can try to see if it is expected in FTS or not.

Total number of records are 150 thousands ,
In that 148 thousands records having the maching text for g*.
So my total number of records are 148000 (approx).

Is this enough or Do I need to insert more like millions of records.?

i created a job that performs indexing. the execution time takes only a
second. i noticed, however, using SQL Profiler that the process opened 32
connections!

this many connections is unacceptable. is this normal behavior for sql server?
Why do you think it is unacceptable?
SQL FTS spawns many threads to grab as much data as possible simultaneously
to make indexing happen as fast as possible.

Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to obtaining a connection
from the pool. This may have occurred because all pooled connections were in
use and max pool size was reached.
After an investigation I found no errors in the web application that could
cause it use more than one sql connection, and i discovered that the indexing
process, which swallowed up many connections, took place at the very instant

of tapping into the web app's connection. As far as i know, thats just not
possible. The problem im having is that the full text indexing process eats
up all available connections, not allowing anything else to connect.
Here is the scenario:
1. begin fulltext process: exec sp_fulltext_catalog N'Category', N'start_full'
2. in query analyzer execute: sp_who2 (view the fulltext process using 50+
connections)
3. start the webapp: hit the website and trigger a sql connection.
result: The web app can't connect. why? because the fulltext process used up
all of the connections! The web application then times out and throws the
exception.

Full Text Indexing

I have made a table called BOB in BOB I have a field called skills.
I have created a full text index on this field.
In this field there is A+, N+, C and C++ along with the usual sentences e.g. "I have a diploma in A+" or " I worked for the C.N.A using C++ ..."

My problem:

In order to be able to search for "C" I've had to remove it from the noise word file. Unfortunately when I now search for "C" I also get C++ which I don't want, and visa versa.

When I search for A+ it returns an error... "your query contained ignored words."
Now I can't remove "a" from the noise words as the result of the query would be rediculous. i.e. I would recieve everything that has the letter "a" in it . Believe me I've tried :confused: .

Does anyone have any idea how I could overcome this rather difficult dilema.

Briansince you have alist of known skiles you can make acolum for every skile , make it a true / fals colum then put an index on thes colums
(its a bad index i know but it will suit you fine)

I created a full text catalog of a table and one column from the table. I'm getting unexpected results when I query the catalog. The table name is "doc" and the column name is docident. I store document identification numbers in the docident column. A

AF373416
AF373416A
AF373416C
When I run the following query for AF373416 I am returned results for both AF373416 and AF373416A. I don't see results for AF373416C though.
SELECT docident FROM doc
WHERE CONTAINS(docident,'AF373416')
Is this a bug in SQL server oris my select statement incorrect?

Can you do a incremental population of the full-text index for the
particular table.
sp_fulltext_table 'doc','start_incremental','CATALOG_NAME',NULL
Replace the catalog_name with yours.
Try executing the same query, if you still have issues then execute te below
command and try doing a select
exec sp_fulltext_catalog 'myCatalog', 'start_full'
Starts a full population for fulltext_catalog_name. Every row of every table
associated with this full-text catalog is
--retrieved for full-text indexing, even if indexed.
