Fullt Text Search fails in a 2 node cluster

Hi!
I have a problem with Full Text Search in a clustered enviroment.
The Resource Fullt Text Search will not come online, it fails and giving me
a error in the log that says
"An Error occurred during the online operation for instance <SQL Server
Fulltext (UTB2)>: 80070002 - the system cannot find the file specified."
I′ve tried to reinstall Full Text by reading the KB 827449, but when i get
to the part where i should use the command "ftsetup.exe" i get a error in the
application log saying:
"Faulting application ftsetup.exe, version 2000.80.2039.0 faulting module
msvcr71.dll, version 7.10.3052.4, fault adress 0x00014d5c."
I also get a similar error concerning msvcrt.dll version 7.0.3790.1830.
We are using Windows 2003 SP1 and SQL 2000 Enterprise edition SP4
The strange about this is that right now there are 4 instances on the same
node where 2 of them has full text online and working but the 2 others has
the error mentioned above, so as i can understand there are no problem with
the nodes but instead i believe that the instances is not aware of Microsoft
Search. therefore as the KB article says i need to run the command
FTSETUP.EXE to configure the instances with Microsoft Search.
Right now i have no other ideas, fearing that the only thing to solve this
is to reinstall the whole SQL instance :o( wich is nothing i′m looking
forward to.
So please if you have any ideas, fill me in...

Look in the FTData folder for each instance for files called Clus0.0,
clus0.1 etc. If those are not there, you may want to consider calling PSS
on this, as clustered FT issues are very difficult to troubleshoot.

|||Yes the FDATA folder exist and i have also granted both the SQL and the
Cluster Service Account full control to the folder. Also checked permissions
in the registry. It looks OK everywhere but it fails on the DLLs mentioned
before.

Apperently this kind of problems ususally result in a re-installation of the
SQL instance, but Daniel thought that maybe someone has solved this matter in

uninstall/re-install.
Download filemon from sysinternals to get the exact file and path it is
looking for and go from there...

Did you re-register the dll's and add the registry key? I strongly suspect

Sorry for the late reply, however, assuming you're installing SQL Server
2000 Enterprise Edition on Windows 2003 Advance or Enterprise servers, Full
Text Search is installed by default. If you're using SQL Server 7.0, then
Full-Text Search is not supported in a clustered environment. Without more
info on what you're looking for, a series of steps, or troubleshooting a
specific error, it's kinda hard to provide relevant info. However, the below

Hello,
When I run an incremental/full job for a full text
catalog on win 2k , SQL 2K sp3a cluster server, i am
getting this in the SQL error log
Login failed for user domain\servername$
We recently removed the local admin group having syadmin
access to the server.
I changed the Job owner to the SQL Startup account, even
then it is using the above login. Why is that ?
I couldnt be able to grant the login access as i am not
able to see in the list of users...
Where is this login, can i change something to fix ?

Full Text - cluster active-active

I have an active-active cluster env. The servers were migrated to new
servers, but the storage is the same. The serves were installed and the
storage re-connected. The db structure was not changed. The cluster and SQL
services have the same domain user. The problem is the full text only works
in one node. There isn't error messages. I can rebuild and populate, but no
information about the data are show.

Full Text - Cannot Delete

We just migrated our SQL Server 2000 (SP4) to a cluster, keeping the same
name etc. Everything is working fine with the exception of one database. The
issue is that this database full text index is pointing to 'D:\MSSQL
Catalogs' which does not exist anymore. Is there a way to remove the full
text index and recreate it? I get errors when I try to delete it. I get
error 20565 - database is not full-text enabled yet. I use the exec
sp_fulltext_database 'enable' command and receive -
(1 row(s) affected)
(0 row(s) affected)
Server: Msg 7627, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_fulltext_database, Line 61
Full-text catalog in directory 'D:\MSSQL Catalogs' for clustered server
cannot be created. Only directories on a disk in the cluster group of the

Backup your database. Kick all users off it. Then using EM right click on
the tables you are full-text indexing and delete the full-text indexes on
them. When you have completed this, try to create another catalog, delete it
through EM, and then delete the contents of sysfulltextcatalogs.

Full Text - Cannot Delete

We just migrated our SQL Server 2000 (SP4) to a cluster, keeping the same
name etc. Everything is working fine with the exception of one database. The
issue is that this database full text index is pointing to 'D:\MSSQL
Catalogs' which does not exist anymore. Is there a way to remove the full
text index and recreate it? I get errors when I try to delete it. I get
error 20565 - database is not full-text enabled yet. I use the exec
sp_fulltext_database 'enable' command and receive -

Thank you!Backup your database. Kick all users off it. Then using EM right click on
the tables you are full-text indexing and delete the full-text indexes on
them. When you have completed this, try to create another catalog, delete it
through EM, and then delete the contents of sysfulltextcatalogs.
If this doesn't work try this in QA
sp_help_fulltext_catalogs
to get the names of your fulltext catalogs and then try

FTS Cluster Setup

I have an existing SQL 2000 Cluster setup and would like to add Full
Text search to it. Is there any specific doc or best practices for
this configuration? I have started the install once but the only
option was to uninstall SQL Server. Do I run ftsetup.exe instead?
From what I recall, SQL FTS is part of a cluster install. There is no option
to deselect it.
Are you having a problem with it?
